I just received a call from Science - the new editor in chief is Bruce Alberts. The journal made him the offer, and he accepted over the weekend.

Alberts will assume his duties March 1. Current editor-in-chief Don Kennedy will remain in the position until then.

AAAS spokesperson Ginger Pinholster said I was the first call she made with the news.

Alberts was one of many names that surfaced during the months of speculation over who would take over the journal.

Alberts is a biochemist at the University of California, San Francisco, and former president of the National Academy of Sciences.

Alberts is a big scientist. Besides his achevements in biochemical field, he also devoted himself to scientific management and dissemination of scientific discoveries to the public. I hope that Science editted by Dr. Alberts is open-minded and easier to read, pays more attention to scientists' works in the developing countries!

Firstly,I frankly congratulate Bruce Alberts for becoming Editor-in-Chief of The Scientist. Secondly ,I ask him in a frankly way to remember the old indian saying "There are thousands of suns above the clouds, awaiting us". I mean that, beside molecular biology, it does really exsists also a 50 year old SCIENCE, mainly overlooked all around the world, based on proper utilization of an unfortunately obsolete tool, i.e., the stethoscope. Such as interesting clinical method has opened new way in the war against most common and serious disorders as malignancy and diabetes, on very large scale, in under-developed, developing, and developed countries: Biophysical Semeiotics.
