Robert C. Gallo
The renknowned virologist was in his element: Robert C. Gallo, a fit and trim 66-year-old, was mingling and joking with his colleagues in the relaxed atmosphere of St. Martin where they gathered for the recent 1st International Workshop on HIV Persistence during Therapy. "I like people," says Gallo. Yet the man co-credited with linking HIV to AIDS was also somewhat of a dignitary there, commanding respect as a leader among equals, a role with which he seems comfortable.
